European Red Stag at Estancia Alicura in Argentina

Like all legends, Estancia Alicura has its roots in the history of a colorful turn of events. First established by early European settlers over a century ago, its 200,000+ acres have been improved over decades of private ownership to preserve the land’s beauty. Today Estancia Alicura maintains its majestic beauty of the land, while providing guests with all the conveniences and luxuries of today’s international lodgings.

For the outdoorsman, Alicura is a sportsman’s paradise. Hunting is truly unparalleled. Accompanied by bilingual gauchos on horseback or in all-terrain vehicles, hunters find an abundance of trophy-caliber red stag, European boar and quail on the Patagonia plains. Since Alicura’s seasons are opposite to those in the U.S., the roaring of the red stag takes place in March.

For the fisherman, the word “spectacular” fits Alicura perfectly. Located in the Lake Region of Patagonia, Alicura fishermen can have their choice of lake fishing (our 15,000+ lake) or river casting with Alicura’s three mountain rivers (Limay, Caleufu and Collon Cura). In addition Fly Fishing at Estancia Alicura in Argentinato rafts and the area’s only drift boats, Alicura boasts Argentina’s finest bilingual guides headed up by Fernando Gonzalez who can also arrange for everything from customized trips to overnight floats providing the best experience of fishing the Patagonia rivers. Trolling and spin fishing are options as well.

Since Alicura is all about convenience, guests don’t have to leave their day in the field for lunch. Rather, they enjoy fresh grilled asados – pork, sausage and famed Argentine beef – with fine regional wines on red-and-white checked tablecloths.

And speaking of meals, Alicura’s hospitality is without comparison. Evening meals are simply sumptuous. As one guest remarked, “I thought we had finished a big supper only to learn it was just the appetizer portion of the meal.” Complimenting the meals are regional wines including those from the award-winning Andeluna Cellars. Even the vegetables are grown organically in Alicura’s one-acre greenhouse.

The four guest rooms in the main house and the three-bedroom guest home feature full-en-suite baths, duvet-covered beds, plush terrycloth robes and wood-paneled living rooms with fireplaces. To complement the world-renowned accommodations and cuisine is Alicura’s eager-to-please staff. Under the supervision of Danny Guillen, this bilingual team has time and again received rave reviews for surpassing the expectations of Alicura guests.

As the late, great fishing guru Mel Krieger described Alicura “outstanding. . . the accommodations, food and service couldn’t have been better, and of even more importance – everyone including my maids, cooks, guides, etc. and, of course, the manager, appeared happy and smiling – genuinely happy to have whatever guests were there.”
